Two men from the town of New Mills in Derbyshire have been arrested after an audacious armed raid on a convenience store there in November.
Stephen Bradley and David Oakley used an imitation gun and a knife to threaten shop staff during the robbery, with each using a made-up name for the other when communicating, all of which can be heard in the footage of the crime.
Throughout the raid, which was caught on Derbyshire Police’s bodycam footage as well as the store’s CCTV, the pair spoke in heavy - if pretend - Liverpudlian accents, repeatedly telling the cashier they were heading back to the city, “where they were from.”
However, both lived just minutes from the Church Road store, some 50 miles from Liverpool.
Police were initially called after two men were seen running up Church Road on 26 November with balaclavas and what was believed to be a pistol.
A second report was then quickly received that an armed robbery had taken place at a convenience store there, during which staff were threatened and £4,000 of cigarettes, £200 cash and nine bottles of Jack Daniel’s whiskey were stolen.
Bradley and Oakley were identified as the suspects by witnesses. The pair were located together at a property in New Street shortly after and arrested. Inside the house officers found a large amount of tobacco, nine bottles of Jack Daniels and a silver pellet gun.
Both admitted the offences and appeared at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court for sentencing, where they were each jailed for four years.
Bradley, of New Street, New Mills, pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. Oakley, of no fixed address, admitted robbery and possession of a knife.
