Morrisons has appointed Maz Ahmed as its new managing director of convenience & wholesale.
He replaces Matt Heslop who left the role in February of this year.
Ahmed has been tasked with the further growth of the Morrisons convenience business, with plans to add hundreds more franchise stores. He will also focus on driving an improved performance from the company owned Morrisons Daily estate.
He has more than 18 years’ service with Morrisons, joining the Group in 2008, and has extensive experience of the supermarket’s commercial operations, spending the majority of his career in commercial finance roles, latterly as group commercial finance director.
Ahmed also spent three years as operations director at Myton, the group’s food manufacturing business, where he had operational responsibility for the produce and horticulture businesses.
Rami Baitiéh, Morrisons CEO, said: “Maz has demonstrated strong leadership skills in his previous roles and is already bringing new focus and drive to the management of our Convenience operations. I look forward to his further contribution to the development of this important business.”
Elsewhere in Morrisons, Paul Dobson is to leave his role as convenience & franchise director.
Announcing his departure on social media, Dobson said: “After 15 years with the company and nearly a decade in Wholesale and Franchise, this week brings my chapter at Morrisons to a close.
“From my days in the General Merchandise buying team where I was given so much trust (thrown in the deep end - in a good way!) to convenience trading and then opening the first Morrisons Daily store, which helped establish the wholesale business at Morrisons, my fantastic team scaling to over 700 locations.
“As I knew would be the case, it’s the people and the relationships which have got me this week - colleagues and customers alike. Thank you to my team, colleagues and all of the customers who pledged their faith in what we set out to achieve!”
A Morrisons spokesperson added: “Paul Dobson has decided to leave Morrisons. Paul opened the first Morrisons Daily Franchise store which helped establish the wholesale business at Morrisons and he led the team that scaled the function to over 700 locations. We would like to thank him for his contribution to the wholesale business over the last nine years and wish him the best for the future.”
