A disused store in the village of Althorne in Essex has seen plans submitted to reopen after being closed for eight years.
The former store and Post Office on Burnham Road shut down almost a decade ago, but is now hoping to reopen to serve the community once more.
To be named The Althorne Store, the new premises would open from 6am-11pm daily, and the plans have been submitted by retailer Sivarajah Thenushan, who has applied for the license to finally reopen the store.
In June 2018, Jeyam’s Supermarket - which was at the site and included a Post Office - shut down, however there are currently no plans for the Post Office to return.
The site, which includes a detached building, with the former store, a three-bedroom house and an attached office, was previously up for sale and marketed by Dedman Gray.
Maldon District Council’s licensing sub-committee will discuss the plans tomorrow (22 April).
The documents associated with the application state: “This store will be a community store, there will be added services to the community. The store will have all products available as a local convenience store.”
