Last year saw Co-op member consulatations take place up and down the UK

Towards the end of 2025, Co-op members came together at events across the country to share what matters most to them with the group.

Over tastings and activities, they told council members and member activators what was working well, where improvements were needed and how Co-op could better support them and their local communities. Now, the concerns raised by stores have been addressed by Co-op.

“Members at our city centre pop-up events in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast told us locally sourced products and availability of essentials were key priorities. Using these ideas and comments, the National Members’ Council is asking the Co-op board to introduce a Member Essentials Basket to guarantee great prices on the most-bought basics in all stores, all the time,” Co-op said in a release.

Members also said they were concerned about anti-social behaviour in and around their stores. Following this feedback, incidents were assessed in Rochdale, Cleethorpes, Bromley and Crawley. At the Whitleigh Green store in Plymouth, a light has now been installed at the entrance to help colleagues, members and customers have a safer shopping experience. Elsewhere, store managers were supported with the processes for raising issues and working closely with local policing teams.

The latest requests are part of motions which will go on to shape the things Co-op works on for its 2026 AGM. If members are eligible to vote on them, they will be invited to make their voice count from 13 April-11 May.

Other improvements made as a result of the feedback included improved store noticeboards (above left), new click and collect services, store repairs and greater powers for teams to decide what goes on their shelves.
