South Yorkshire Police have charged a man following a suspected robbery at a Today’s Express store in Lundwood, Barnsley.
The incident took place on Thursday 7 May in which a 40-year-old male was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition following a stabbing. His condition has since stabilised.
Following an appeal and investigation, which included CCTV trawls, house-to-house work and searches undertaken by specialist forensic teams, officers arrested Alex Hill, of Parkland View in Barnsley and charged him with robbery, causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Hill has been remanded in custody ahead of his first appearance before Barnsley Magistrates’ Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: “Our officers and detectives have been working day and night on this case, to trace the suspect, piece together how events unfolded and reassure our communities.
“The man we have arrested remains in custody for questioning. In the meantime, officers will be continuing high-visibility patrols in Lundwood over the weekend to answer questions from the local community and ensure they feel safe.
“Our enquiries continue and I’d like to thank all members of the public who have contacted us so far with information.”
