Northern Irish Spar retailer, The Wall Group, has announced a major workforce investment, in partnership with Craft Recruitment.
The Wall Group has been part of the Belfast retail landscape for over two decades, operating a portfolio of Spar forecourts and convenience stores alongside its newer butchery concept. The new training programme sits alongside the group’s ongoing recruitment drive across its sites.
It is soon to open a programme of NVQ-level qualifications to staff across every part of its Belfast operation, with the partnership seeing team members in the group’s stores, the new Wall’s Foodhall & Butchery and its Subway and deli divisions enrolled onto nationally recognised qualifications.
The courses will span butchery, customer service, retail management, food safety and operational management, with all delivered while team members continue in their day-to-day roles. The first cohort of learners begins in summer 2026.
The investment is part of the Wall Group’s ongoing expansion into specialist food retail through its foodhall and butchery.
Managing director, Gavan Wall, said: “Our people are our greatest asset, and this partnership is about backing that with action. Whether someone is starting out on the deli counter or running one of our stores, they should have a clear, structured path to develop their skills and earn a qualification that’s recognised across the industry. Craft Recruitment shares our belief that investing in people is how you build a sustainable business.”
For its retail stores, the customer service and retail management qualifications will equip store teams to progress into supervisory and store manager roles, the Group said.
A Craft Recruitment spokesperson added: “The Wall Group is exactly the kind of employer we love to work with - they’re serious about their people and they back it up. Delivering NVQs that span everything from butchery craftsmanship to retail management means we’re meeting Belfast workers where they are and giving them the credentials to go further.”
