A.F. Blakemore has confirmed that CEO Carol Welch has stepped down from her role.
In a statement, a spokesperson thanked Welch for her time in the role. “We can confirm that after nearly four years as CEO of A.F. Blakemore, Carol Welch will step down from her role on 2 October 2026.
“We thank Carol for her leadership and contribution to the business during a significant period of transformation and wish her every success for the future.”
The spokesperson added that executive chairman Peter Blakemore will lead the business following Welch’s departure, “working closely with the existing executive team, which remains unchanged”.
Welch assumed the CEO role in April 2023, replacing Jerry Marwood. She was previously UK & Ireland managing director at Odeon Cinemas Group as well as previously holding positions at Costa Coffee, Associated British Foods, Cadbury-Schweppes, and PepsiCo.
In May of this year, A.F. Blakemore entered into an asset purchase agreement of the South-West Spar licence from Appleby Westward Group (AWG) which included the acquisition of 71 company-owned stores, associated warehouse and logistics infrastructure and related independent retailer supply agreements.
