A prolific shoplifter has been jailed after stealing meat from a Peterborough Co-op store - just days after being handed a suspended sentence for similar offences.

Malcolm Ravenhill (above) went to the branch of Co-op in Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, on his mobility scooter on 2 September at 10.50am.

The determined wheeled thief went on to select steaks worth more than £250 from the chiller, before hiding them in the rear of the scooter and leaving the shop. The theft came just six days after the criminal was handed a suspended sentence at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, having admitted eight other counts of theft.

Ravenhill was identified via CCTV footage and arrested at home. On Wednesday last week (10 September), at the same court, he admitted the new count of theft and was jailed for a year.

PC Sam Malton, from Cambridgeshite Police’s newly formed Spree Offender Team, said: “Ravenhill is a prolific offender who clearly didn’t learn his lesson having been given a suspended sentence less than a week before this offence.

“He clearly gave no thought to the impact his actions were having on others as he continued to offend. I’m pleased he was identified again and has now been jailed for his actions.”
